Restoration of Kingston kit home yields vintage Coca-Cola posters, local ice cream advertising signs

KINGSTON, N.Y. >> Tucked away on Petit Avenue, with a backyard that blends seamlessly into Lawton Park, is a small 1930s kit home its owner says he has “lovingly restored” and considers “a gift to Kingston.”

In November 2016, Rifton resident, videographer and collector Frank Basile purchased the 835-square-foot cottage at 26 Petit Ave., intending to restore it and then rent it to a friend. Basile said he’s searched the home’s attic for the telltale serial numbers that are known as the mark of a Sears kit home and never found them. That led him to assume the Petit Avenue home was a Montgomery Ward, or Wardway, model.
