Collector Items I found online, a short list!
Well what do you want out of an Auction or Estate Sale? Do you hope to find that item you always see on the ANTIQUES ROADSHOW ™ that the guest bought for $20 & now is worth a lot of money? Or are you just looking for things you like to have?  I found some interesting things out there to buy so let’s check them out!

Finding the Treasure
So if you are looking to “flip” items let’s take a look at some interesting items I found online.
Coins & Stamps
These will always have value and normally go up over time. Obviously gold and silver will fluctuate with the commodities market but the collector value can be worth more then that.
I suggest getting a good collectors book before entering into this market. Some I found are
Handbook of United States Coins 2018: The Official Blue Book, Paperback
Coin Collecting For Dummies
A Guide Book of United States Coins 2017: The Official Red Book, Hardcover Edition

These can get you started and help you make a sound decision while at a auction or estate sale. Learn more on how to get started right on the US Mint website

Collectibles
This category is very broad so we’ll just look at some of my favorites.

Advertising
We all have seen those Mobil signs with Pegasus but there are tons of other things out there also.
Some things I found that made me chuckle & look interesting:

  • Advertising
  • Collectible Joe Camel Humpback Lure We all know smoking is bad, but do the fish know it? Unfortunately looks like this was removed from the package. Finding items in the packaging can really increase the value!
  • Coca Cola Button Sign – Vintage 36″ Metal Drink Coke – Original 1950s Soda Gas – Signs are great collectibles.  American Pickers always take a look at these then usually make an offer.  They are easy to store in any man cave (if the wife will let you) and should go up in value over time.  But over manufactured signs probably won’t.  I fond this guide that might help you decide,  Picker’s Pocket Guide – Signs: How to Pick Antiques Like a Pro
  • Vintage Quaker Oatmeal limited edition tin – This might be an interesting category to get into Product Tins, good condition tins can hold their value.  They are easy to store and Ebay has a huge category of them. Most of the books I found were almost 20 years old (collectors Item also LOL)  Encyclopedia of Advertising Tins, Vol. 2: Smalls & Samples, Identification & Values but I guess they could be useful in getting a general idea of what might hold value.  It also tells me that if no one is writing about it then no one is buying in this category so do your research!

Comics
My thought on comics is they are risky for investment purposes. But there are die – hard fans and they will pay big bucks for what they want!

  • Incredible Hulk 181 first appearance of Wolverine! Complete book no restoration – Wow this one is listed for $1,135. My thought on comics is they are risky for investment purposes. But there are die – hard fans and they will pay big bucks for what they want!
  • X-Men 2099 A.D. Special #1 (“Tin Man”) a great example of a comic (and going with the tin theme) of a comic that did not hold any real value. So it goes to show it probably is luck when buying new comics and hoping they go up. Buy what you like and maybe your kids will be able to cash in!

Sports Memorabilia
This category can really cash in. Fans stick with their teams and collectors will pay big money for unusual items. Check out our book store for guides to this category, again knowledge will help make good decisions when buying these items. Make sure if it is a big ticket item to have an expert look at first or that it has paper work that goes with it. Forgeries are rampant in this category!

So if you’re out treasure hunting pick a category you enjoy and select things with knowledge! Good Luck finding the next treasure!
